This ERC1155 token comprises 110 fragments, each connected to an owner’s wallet, which serves as a seed to generate circles within the piece. Some circles may shift to the background or even fade to black, only to re-emerge later, as blending changes dynamically with time, ultimately rendering the NFT dark at night and offering a new visual experience.

Yo! The Fully On Chain newsletter is back! I took some time away from FOC to recharge and straighten my bearings. It can be tough with the ups and downs of the market. Plus, I had an IRL job promotion keeping me pretty busy, as well as focusing on my health over the summer (Your boy lost 15 lbs!). But, we’re back now so let’s get it!

Pioneer on-chain artist [Miragenesi](https://twitter.com/miragenesi) always provides a new perspective to creating on-chain art and [HAVOC](https://havoc.miragenesi.art/) brings that same mentality. “These tokens are tradable only during dire market conditions when ETH is down. The art anxiogenicity reflects the level of decline. The project explores difficult emotional states, challenging the collectors to take action during moments of deep distress.” Miragnesi is once again showing how to create art that can only be done on the blockchain.

[Eto Vass](https://twitter.com/EtoVass), creator of [Alien Runes](https://alienrunes.xyz/), has written a detailed tutorial for [creating on-chain SVG artwork](https://www.fullyonchain.art/articles/fully-on-chain-svg-nfts-rendering). This initial tutorial goes through setting up a development environment with NodeJS and Foundry, then walks through the process of creating generative art in the form of simple shapes and uses his awesome Hot Reload tool. I have gone through the full tutorial and I can say the developer experience is pretty nice, especially with Typescript support. The next upcoming parts will will cover creating NFTs out of these generative SVGs and creating a minting website! If you find this interesting consider supporting Eto by minting some [Alien Runes](https://alienrunes.xyz/). It will help future development of on-chain tools such as Hot Reload as well as more informational resources such as this tutorial. Plus they look really good!

He’s dropping a new project called [Omega Code](https://highlight.xyz/mint/656782ece40ef8d353322f31) during Art Basel starting December 8. An interesting twist is that encoded into the art is a timer that changes the color of the mint each day. It will be on the Base blockchain and minting will cost around $10 USD so it’s a very affordable piece. I’m planning to collect one for each day. I highly recommend joining his discord to read through the work-in-progress of this art. It’s very detailed and fascinating.

### Fully on-chain generate art coming to Foundation?
A huge win for the on-chain space if this is true. The CEO of Foundation all but [confirmed](https://twitter.com/saturnial/status/1727119869882339832) that their new generative art platform will be fully on-chain. After the recent tweet from the Foundation CEO where he said [Ethereum is not designed to be a storage layer](https://twitter.com/saturnial/status/1720459163594314068), they seem to have taken a 180 on that and will soon go fully on-chain! We will soon see the details if this remains the case.

[fx(hash](https://www.fxhash.xyz/)) has long been the gold standard as an open platform for generative art. It has had a lot of success on the Tezos chain but is soon coming to Ethereum. It was scheduled to go live on December 1st but has been pushed back 2 weeks. They will support on-chain artwork (not sure if fully on-chain or just the source code). This is a huge step for the world of on-chain projects. Two of my more anticipated projects are [Slott](https://www.fxhash.xyz/?selectedLaunchProject=d793f1bc-ad1a-4539-9042-444a034f769b) by Roni Kaufman and Kumaleon, [Paradigm](https://www.fxhash.xyz/?selectedLaunchProject=758281de-38b3-4520-bb02-4df59945f86f) by ippsketch, and [Blokkendoos](https://www.fxhash.xyz/?selectedLaunchProject=91d13486-cfaf-40dc-9653-f4f9fa2aba4c) by Piter Pasma.

With gas prices on Ethereum soaring, It honestly makes the most sense for on-chain art to be generative. Rather than storing rendered art outputs on chain, it is more efficient to store source code that can generate many images. I truly think this is the way.

As we continue to see more and more projects released that are fully on-chain, as well as platforms that enable artists to cement their work directly into the Ethereum blockchain, this little corner of the internet we have is rapidly expanding. It will be impossible to list all of the projects on the site for two reasons. One, it currently takes some time to list and properly vet all the projects. Two, not all projects are especially noteworthy. I think it’s important to take a curated approach to keep the quality of projects we have on the site and discuss are up to a high standard. When I started Fully On Chain last year I wanted to help do my part to push the idea of fully on-chain NFTs and why they are important. It seems like we, as a community, are making great strides on that mission. Well done everyone!

## 🎨 Artist Feature: Takens Theorem

[Takens Theorem](https://twitter.com/takenstheorem) was kind enough to send us some writings on two of his works, [the_coin](https://opensea.io/collection/the-coin-by-takens-theorem), and [Gaussian Time Pieces](https://opensea.io/collection/gaussian-timepieces-by-takens-theorem-1). Takens is self-described as a cryptothematic data analyst, visualist and writer. I admire the technical and analytical approach taken to all of their projects.

the_coin is an on-chain series that depicts the history of Bitcoin through data-driven visualizations. The project's motivation is rooted in Bitcoin's significance as the pioneering cryptocurrency and its impact on the broader blockchain industry. It recognizes Bitcoin's numerical and philosophical dominance, even serving as the inspiration for the creation of Ethereum, and aims to preserve and share the history of Bitcoin through art.

the_coin consists of four distinct visualizations. The first, "Issuance," illustrates Bitcoin's diminishing supply and its transition from mining rewards to transaction fees. The second, "Miner 1," highlights the early days of Bitcoin mining, attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto and others, showcasing the first transactions and miner addresses. "Security" demonstrates the growth of Bitcoin's security through the hash rate, emphasizing the network's resistance to tampering. Lastly, "Integration" represents Bitcoin's evolution into a recognized and accepted asset, reaching institutional and cultural awareness.

The project allows owners to interact with and restyle the visualizations by providing CSS snippets, making each NFT customizable. On each edition, near the signature, the owner’s address is stamped. When a token is transferred, the SVG updates to the new owner’s address.

Consistent with this conceptual exploration, Takens did a follow-up project [layer_two](https://opensea.io/collection/layer-two-by-takens-theorem) which is also on-chain, and which uses the_coin’s on-contract memory to build new, modified visuals — going beyond the limitations of the base layer and composing into new forms (but secured by the “base layer”… much like an actual L2).

### [Gaussian Timepieces (Sep. 2021)](https://opensea.io/collection/gaussian-timepieces-by-takens-theorem-1)

[Gaussian Timepieces](https://opensea.io/collection/gaussian-timepieces-by-takens-theorem-1) aim to symbolize the relationship between blockchain time and our perception of time. The timepieces are inspired by the statistical patterns of block time on the Ethereum blockchain and aim to capture the stochastic and variable nature of blockchain time. These serve as both timers and data visualizations, offering a unique way to represent time on the blockchain.

The timepieces are EVM generated, and their appearance and features are based on what’s called a “Dynamic dial.” 3 parameters, block timer, amount of ETH held in the owner's wallet, and the number of on-chain NFTs from various projects held in the owners's wallet. They come in five different durations, ranging from 2 to 32 blocks, and are distinguished by the number of elements on their faces, indicating the variability of blockchain time.

Owners have the freedom to modify and adapt their timepieces, and there is a focus on representing cross-project ownership through visual elements on the timepieces.

__*“Fun feature: it’s now an anachronistic clock, because Ethereum’s post-Merge timing is precise at 12s per block; when I did this, it was Gaussian, around 13s mean. :)”*__

The notches on the timepiece’s bezel (and elements inside the face) mark the number of on-chain projects a collector has and the total number of tokens from those projects — the contract calls 15 other contracts of prior on-chain works (Avastars, etc.) to build the piece in SVG (so the bezel is “built for each wallet” dynamically).

[Dan from OpenSea](https://opensea.io/assets/ethereum/0x5f61975816ecdc761fac1e4d6359bfd4c3941e2f/7) has a nice example as he has been collecting for a long time, holding 11 of those 15 prior projects, and [Barthazian](https://opensea.io/assets/ethereum/0x5f61975816ecdc761fac1e4d6359bfd4c3941e2f/22) has 267 total tokens!

From artist [Hideki Tsukamoto](https://twitter.com/TsukamotoHideki), Cypher uses circles and radial lines to create animated HUD-like geometric pieces. Cypher was created in August 2021 which makes it the 11th oldest art collection on our list! This is fully IN-chain as it’s drawn via smart-contract, by the Ethereum Virtual Machine.

This is a nice on-chain project from [yungwknd](https://twitter.com/yungwknd) that I recently found that was created in September 2021. On-chain SVG abstract art project that uses shapes, lines, and interesting color palettes. It had an interesting mechanic to it where minters chose to either donate 0.1 ETH to charity or pay 0.01 ETH to the creator. In the end, he was able to donate over 6 ETH to Black Girls Code. Amazing!

Wawa is a fascinating project. It’s an avatar for [Philand](https://philand.xyz/), which uses your on-chain action history to decorate your character or give you objects to fill your land with. I’ve been a fan of theirs for many many years and this is an affordable way to get some art from them.

Each piece is a unique SVG art that is output directly from the smart contract. They are free to mint and will continue to be open to mint until two weeks have passed without a new mint. Then it will close. Grab some of these while they are available! (pro tip: if you mint through the contract you can get a couple of different aspect ratios not available through the site)

Hey folks, [Greyblok](https://twitter.com/greyblok) here,

Welcome to the first issue of the Fully On Chain newsletter! 👋 I’m glad that you're here. I’ll try my best to keep these newsletters short and sweet.

For this first newsletter I’d like to quickly describe what the heck this newsletter is about? Firstly, it’s a place to share new on-chain artworks that I’ve found for the site. I’ll share news that I think is relevant and useful to us on-chain art nerds. I’ll give updates on the FOC website. I’d also like to showcase some notable art that I have found (both on-chain and off). And lastly I’ll throw in some random dope stuff I’ve found.

As for what this newsletter isn’t? It’s not a place to shill crappy projects and spam your inbox. I will NOT give financial advice. This won’t be a lengthy newsletter that is a burden to read through. And that’s pretty much it! If you have any ideas feel free to reply to any email. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

## 🤝 A Collaboration - “New Heights, Alone”

I’m happy to announce a collaboration effort with[ Wedda.eth](https://twitter.com/weddaETH)! He is a friend who I have been chatting with over the last few months. I collected his earlier art work, [The Lonely Man](https://foundation.app/collection/lonelyman), because I love minimal art and I found this one powerful. When I heard he was doing a new collection series I let him know this could be a good opportunity to step into the on-chain art world. The project is called “New Heights, Alone” and has some nice perks aside from being fantastic on-chain art. It outputs a static SVG artwork which reacts to its container size producing a unique visual at a given resolution. ## 💻 Website Updates

I changed the homepage to have an emphasis on the newsletter. I think this is a more viable way to get information out to our on-chain art lovers (thanks for reading 🙂).

Also, some technical updates, I rewrote the whole website in Tailwind CSS for performance benefits. The site should load a lot faster than previously, and I’m hoping the performance gains help out on the SEO front.
