Hey, on-chain fens! đ
Welcome to issue #4 of the Fully On Chain newsletter! Weâve had a lot of new subscribers in the past few weeks. Thanks to everyone who has been sharing it around the interwebs. It is greatly appreciated :D
Where are you reading this newsletter from? Reply and introduce yourself :)
First things first, free art! After featuring Raw Feeling of Solitude Wedda was able to sell out his collection and get his artwork into the hands of some great collectors. As a thank you to our on-chain community he is giving away 40 editions of his latest piece, Escalator.
Escalator
Life, an escalator, propels through ups and downs. Each step leaves behind the past. This piece embodies courage, wisdom in solitude, and relentless upward movement despite challengesâa testament to the enduring human spirit to rise, conquer, and thrive.
How to Receive
Reply to this email with your ETH address and follow Wedda on Twitter! For the first 40 people only! Also, please share your new piece with the world! Letâs give him more attention to other on-chain collectors!
Iâd like some feedback on how to handle drops in this newsletter, going forward. As the subscribers list grows it is becoming a bigger ask for artists to give away art to so many collectors, especially for free. Would you all be interested in paying a small fee to get the artwork? Or maybe even a donation? Let me know!
Ok, letâs get on to today's issue đ
đš Artist Feature: Takens Theorem
Takens Theorem was kind enough to send us some writings on two of his works, the_coin, and Gaussian Time Pieces. Takens is self-described as a cryptothematic data analyst, visualist and writer. I admire the technical and analytical approach taken to all of their projects.
the_coin (Jun. 2021)
the_coin is an on-chain series that depicts the history of Bitcoin through data-driven visualizations. The project's motivation is rooted in Bitcoin's significance as the pioneering cryptocurrency and its impact on the broader blockchain industry. It recognizes Bitcoin's numerical and philosophical dominance, even serving as the inspiration for the creation of Ethereum, and aims to preserve and share the history of Bitcoin through art.
the_coin consists of four distinct visualizations. The first, "Issuance," illustrates Bitcoin's diminishing supply and its transition from mining rewards to transaction fees. The second, "Miner 1," highlights the early days of Bitcoin mining, attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto and others, showcasing the first transactions and miner addresses. "Security" demonstrates the growth of Bitcoin's security through the hash rate, emphasizing the network's resistance to tampering. Lastly, "Integration" represents Bitcoin's evolution into a recognized and accepted asset, reaching institutional and cultural awareness.
The project allows owners to interact with and restyle the visualizations by providing CSS snippets, making each NFT customizable. On each edition, near the signature, the ownerâs address is stamped. When a token is transferred, the SVG updates to the new ownerâs address.
Consistent with this conceptual exploration, Takens did a follow-up project layer_two which is also on-chain, and which uses the_coinâs on-contract memory to build new, modified visuals â going beyond the limitations of the base layer and composing into new forms (but secured by the âbase layerâ⊠much like an actual L2).
Gaussian Timepieces (Sep. 2021)
Gaussian Timepieces aim to symbolize the relationship between blockchain time and our perception of time. The timepieces are inspired by the statistical patterns of block time on the Ethereum blockchain and aim to capture the stochastic and variable nature of blockchain time. These serve as both timers and data visualizations, offering a unique way to represent time on the blockchain.
The timepieces are EVM generated, and their appearance and features are based on whatâs called a âDynamic dial.â 3 parameters, block timer, amount of ETH held in the owner's wallet, and the number of on-chain NFTs from various projects held in the owners's wallet. They come in five different durations, ranging from 2 to 32 blocks, and are distinguished by the number of elements on their faces, indicating the variability of blockchain time.
Owners have the freedom to modify and adapt their timepieces, and there is a focus on representing cross-project ownership through visual elements on the timepieces.
âFun feature: itâs now an anachronistic clock, because Ethereumâs post-Merge timing is precise at 12s per block; when I did this, it was Gaussian, around 13s mean. :)â
The notches on the timepieceâs bezel (and elements inside the face) mark the number of on-chain projects a collector has and the total number of tokens from those projects â the contract calls 15 other contracts of prior on-chain works (Avastars, etc.) to build the piece in SVG (so the bezel is âbuilt for each walletâ dynamically).
Dan from OpenSea has a nice example as he has been collecting for a long time, holding 11 of those 15 prior projects, and Barthazian has 267 total tokens!
Read more about the_coin and Gaussian Timepieces on Medium. It is very detailed and I tried my best to condense the information down but there is so much more to learn! Amazing projects!
đŒ Featured Projects
New projects (full archive) featured on Fully On Chain over the past week. A nice mix of different projects this time around. Have a project we should feature? Reply and share!
Cypher
From artist Hideki Tsukamoto, Cypher uses circles and radial lines to create animated HUD-like geometric pieces. Cypher was created in August 2021 which makes it the 11th oldest art collection on our list! This is fully IN-chain as itâs drawn via smart-contract, by the Ethereum Virtual Machine.
HUMAN
The minimal, geometric, and grid-based composition of HUMAN incorporates 'nodes' to establish connections between various shapes and objects. The idea is that it visualizes humans in a programmatic way, showcasing different experiences and the skills gained. Great stuff from Nero One!
NFTIME
A fully on-chain flip clock where you can mint a date or time of your choosing. NFTXYZ is a Swiss art collective that focuses on building timeless art projects.

On-Chain Deep Dive
Cyberbrokers did a roundtable discussion with Josie, J1mmy.eth, natealex, James Bloom, and Ben Heidorn all centered around on-chain art. In this discussion they touch upon the âon-chain spectrumâ, royalties, on-chain gas fees, and a lot more. A great watch. đż
đ Interesting Finds
Efficax from 0xdiid
Efficax is a powerful Manifold extension to mint your art on chain to any Manifold Creator Contract. Special thanks to 0xdiid as his tool helped us get Weddaâs art minted. This is truly a game changer for on-chain art.
Shatter from Transient Labs
With Shatter, artists can mint their creations as a unique 1/1 and define if they'd want it to be Shattered into editions or unique 1/1s. Collectors who own all the editions or 1/1s can 'fuse' them back to their original 1/1 form. Fun idea!
Thanks for reading todayâs newsletter. If you enjoyed this edition, please consider forwarding it to someone that you think would love it just as much! Have a happy Halloween! đ
